I would have gladly pre-ordered a physical disc version.
Sonic deserves better. The game looks great, but why not back it up with some fan service?

Release a “Sonic Mania Special Edition” Blu-Ray disc.
Fill this disc with developer interviews from the original faces behind Sonic. And all of the cool Sonic 1,2,3,CD, K Japanese, EUR, and USA commercials…. “SEGA!”, maybe even a few episodes of the Sonic cartoon. This is what fans want.

It’s kinda like Sonic went through a rebellious phase with the 3-D games, but has now grown out of it and returned home to 2-D.

All it took was going back 25 years for them to figure out how to make a Sonic game.

It’s good that they’re going back to the classics but they didn’t have to go all the way back. They could have kept it a 2D side scroller but with good animation.

Just seeing that box art at the end is making me lose my mind. I can’t wait!
