. He has two deathblow markers and is a worthy opponent. He moves quick and hits hard. He has many different attacks and learning them is important so you can get hits in. Obviously deflecting all his melee and ranged attacks is key but even more important in this fight because even if you deflect a heavy melee attack, he does significant damage to your own posture. I highly recommend use the Double Ichimonji combat art and use it after his leap attack. This will recover a significant portion of your posture.
He will move in and attack with melee. You can deflect one and attempt to do a quick stab at him. He will attempt to kick you and jump up backwards and shoot off shurikens which can be guarded or evaded. He will jump backwards and fire off a pair of shurikens followed by a leap attack. Evade that and once he lands hit him with Ichimonji or any melee attack. This is when he is most vunerable. He will also drop a canister of green smoke. If you get hit with this you will be debuffed and can't heal while the effect is still on.
Phase 2 is basically the same as the first one except the Great Shinobi Owl drops a good amount of poison on the floor instead of shooting shurikens. It covers a large area so continue the fight normally while avoiding those areas. He will also drop a smoke bomb and you will lose your lock on him as well as sight.

Great Shinobi Owl is found at the top of the Ashina Castle in Sekiro Shadows Die Twice late in the game if you don’t betray Kuro (good ending path).
