Oddworld: New ‘n” Tasty is a remake of the original PS1 game Oddworld Abe’s Oddysee. Our Hero, Abe, is a Mudokon and works at a meat plant (RuptureFarms) where he discovers that due to a shortage of meat his people are being used as the main ingredient in a new and tasty treat. Abe must stop his boss Molluck the Glukkon and in the process save his people.
The game features 37 different trophies and will require at least 2 playthroughs plus some miscellaneous chapter selecting. Here are the steps that I recommend to getting the platinum in the shortest time possible.
Step 1 – Play the game on hard and save all 299 Mudokon’s – Hard is only kinda difficult, but with the ability to create instant save points at any time, you can get through it with trial and error. To make a quick save point, just simply tap the touchpad. To reload the save, press and hold the touchpad and you’ll instantly respawn at your quick save location. This makes getting past certain obstacles much easier as you can save/load at will. If you find that you have quick saved into a spot you can’t recover from, you can just die and allow yourself to respawn at the most recent automatic checkpoint. During this step, you want to save all 299 Mudokon’s. If one dies, reload your quick save and try again. I do have a video playlist of all Mudokon’s here.
There is a trophy for killing sligs in 15 different ways. There are 18 ways total, so pick 15 of them. This needs to be done in a single playthrough and I recommend you do it during this playthrough. See the trophy description “RuptureFarms: Now Hiring” for more information.
Step 2 – Reload Zulag 1 from chapter select and complete the game and kill every Mudokon – There is a trophy for getting a bad ending as well as one for killing 99 Mudokons. If you reload Zulag 1 and play to the end of the game and DON’T save any more Mudokon’s (except for the 3 at the beginning of Zulag 1 and the 6 at the end of The Boardroom), you will get the Mudokon Pop trophy. Kill the Mudokon’s and you’ll get the Act of Odd trophy. You can do a whole other playthrough if you’d like, but this is quicker. Playing through it again will further familiarize yourself with the game for the next step. It’s your choice.
Step 3 – Start a new game on Easy and beat the game in less than 3 hours while saving all Mudokon’s – If you beat the game on hard, you should be familiar with the traps and puzzles. Now do it again and have a total time of under 3 hours. You can see what your total time is on the save select screen when you first start the game. If you have a time over 3 hours, you can replay chapters and improve the time and then replay the final chapter and the trophy will pop.
Step 4 – Miscellaneous Trophies – There are a few trophies tied to specific chapters that you’ll probably need to go back and do. Just select your easy save file and chapter select the appropriate ones.
Against All Odds
Mudokon God, Mudokon Saviour
Congratulations if you aquired this trophy. You are truly a saviour
Disciple of Odd
Rescue a quarter of all the Mudokons
See Old Messiah
Shepherd of Odd
Rescue half of all the Mudokons
See Old Messiah
Prophet of Odd
Rescue every Mudokon while finishing New ‘n’ Tasty in Easy mode
See Old Messiah
Saviour of Odd
Rescue every Mudokon while finishing New ‘n’ Tasty in Normal mode
See Old Messiah
Odd Messiah
Rescue every Mudokon while finishing New ‘n’ Tasty in Hard mode
You will need to beat the game on Hard mode and save all 299 Mudokon. It sounds harder than it actually is. The game features the ability to create a quick save point anywhere. This will allow you to save after every obstacle if you choose to. Hard mode is equivalent to the difficulty in the original PS1 game. You will have limited grenades, meat and rocks when you pick them up.
Sligs and bats will be able to 1-hit kill you. So approach them carefully and with tactic. Bats can easily be taken care of by using your unlimited supply of bottlecaps. You will die quite a bit, but if you’re consistently making and reloading quick saves, you won’t feel overly frustrated.
Some Tips
- Use your sneak by holding L1 to avoid waking up sleeping enemies.
- Sligs can only shoot you if you’re on the same level as them. Take control of them from a higher or lower level. (Chant suppressors can be destroyed with cooked grenades if you have them)
- If you enter an area with a grenade machine, make sure you refill before leaving the area
- If you are running or rolling, a quick tap of the L1 button will stop you in your tracks. Especially useful if you need to roll between two meat grinders and need to stop between them.
- Use your bottlecaps to lure sligs towards you, or to get them to turn around.
- If you’re controlling a slig and there are Mudokons around, command them to take cover by first hitting down on the dpad before you or the enemy slig start shooting. They will only stay down briefly so be careful and re-issue the command if needed.
- Have patience and take it slow
You can follow my Normal Speedrun walkthrough where I beat the game in 2h44m as a guide. I did the exact same strategies on my hard run without any issues.
No Place Like Home
Find and use all the secret entrances to RuptureFarms
The No Place Like Home trophy is bugged at the time of this post. You will get this trophy automatically if you you are saving all 299 Mudokon’s. The secret entrances are the blue bird portals in the outside chapters. This portals warp you back inside of RuptureFarms where you can save Mudokons. It should pop after you have found the portals in Scrabanian Temple. If you happened to have this glitch on you, people have reported that if you start a new game and play through in a single sitting without exiting to the menu or crashing (which you can’t control) that it can possibly pop. Other than that, you’ll have to wait until a patch.
Act of Odd
Kill 99 Mudokon slaves
This requires you to actively kill your Mudokon friends. You kill them by leading them into traps or using Sligs to shoot them (under your control or they do it on their own). You can combine this trophy with the Mudokon Pop trophy where you need to get the bad ending. Any Mudokons that you don’t save in RuptureFarms will automatically become casualties once you escape the Farm. These Mudokons don’t count towards the trophy. You may see that scoreboard says that you have more than 99 casualties, but the owns that automatically die because you didn’t save them don’t count. You have to personally kill them.
Speed of the Mudomo
Escape 5 or more pursuing Paramites
You will meet some Paramites in the Paramonian Temple. This will be in the far right door on the lower level. At the end of this area, after chanting the bell song to open the exit portal, Paramites will drop down as you approach the exit. You need to run away from them successfully.
Speed of the Mudanchee
Run from a Scrab for 25 meters and survive
This will be automatically given to you if you’re going for all 299 Mudokon because you will need to do this in the first bird portal in Stockyards. When you enter the area, you’ll have a Scrab below you. You need to jump over him and run to the opposite side of the room to jump up and pull a lever. This will meet the requirements for the trophy. In fact, you’ll meet the requirement 4 times while in there.
Close Shave
Escape a Scrab by the skin of your loins
The scrabs are found in numbers in the Scrabanian Temple chapter. You need to be chased by one, which will happen often, and then jump up to another ledge or drop to a lower level to evade the Scrab. To get the trophy, you have to just barely make it. If you are playing on hard, the scrabs are quicker and this will be nearly impossible to miss.
Hit the Deck
As a possessed Slig, fire over the head of a cowering Mudokon
While controlling a slig, you need to issue a get down command to make the Mudokons all take cover. This will allow you to shoot over their head without any of them dying. If you’re saving all the Mudokon, you will need to use the take cover command several times.
Still Life
Escape Stockyards and Free Fire Zone without triggering the alarm or dying
This requires you to complete the second chapter without triggering an alarm (which usually results in death) or dying. You will come up to many red moving panels that will trigger an alarm if you are moving in any way while you are in contact with it. Take it slow, use your sneak to slowly move between them. Remember not to move at all. This includes standing and ducking.
Mine Games
Deactivate 3 toggle mines in a row with no mistakes
The toggle mines are the ones that flash green and red. To deactivate them, you’ll need to hit square button when the light is green. If you’re playing on higher difficulties, don’t be fooled into trying to turn them off when the light quickly turns green. There’s a pattern and you’re looking for the long green one. Anticipate and hit the square button a split second before the long green one. A good place to get this is at the very end of the game in The Boardroom. There is series of 3 toggle mines with the final set of Modokons. Create a save prior to attempting the first one and reload it if you fail to deactivate the mines.
Close Encounters of the Slig Kind
Kill a Slig with any kind of mine
There are several different types of mine. Land Mines, Toggle Mines, Timed Mines and Floating Mines. This will be virtually impossible to miss. Just have a possessed Slig run into one.
Cooked To Perfection
Destroy a Chant Suppressor with a cooked grenade
There are many Chant Suppressors in the game that will prevent you from chanting. You need to cook a grenade by using the Right Analog Stick to aim and then throw with R1. You need to hold the stick and throw it when the grenade is in mid air near the chant suppressor. This will be almost impossible to miss as well.
Odds and Rockers
Bounce a rock off a wall and on to a mine
There are several mines throughout the game. You will need to throw a rock (not a bottlecap) and have it hit a wall or ceiling and then onto a mine. The first place to get this will be in Stockyards when you first get the rocks. If you backtrack to the area just to the right, there should be a toggle mine that you can turn on and use the rock to bounce off the ceiling. Here is a video of this as well as Rockin’ Modokon
Under New Management
Drop 2 Sligs down a single trapdoor at the same time
This can be earned in RuptureFarms at the beginning of the game. You will come to a room with an electric gate with two sleeping Sligs just beyond that. Climb up to the platform above the electric gate and wake up the sligs. Create a quick save and then hit the lever when both sligs are on the trapdoor. If you fail, just reload your quick save.
Don’t Get Mad: Get Elum
Ride Elum for 200 meters without stopping
Elum is your mount, similar to a horse. You will first meet him in Paramonia. There will be several riding sequences in this chapter, as well as Scrabania. You simply need to ride him without stopping while jumping over gaps. It’s not to difficult and you’ll get this without thinking about it most likely.
Nine-Tenths of the Law
Kill 9 Sligs with a single possessed Slig
There’s only one place that you can really get this. It’s in Zulag 4. There will be a lever in front of you that will drop a few sligs down. Hit that and jump up to the platform just to the left with the Mudokon on it. Possess one of the Sligs and use him to shoot the remaining sligs on this upper level. You’ll then need to take a cargo lift down and there will be two more sligs with some Modokon. If you’re going for the save all mudokon trophy, you’ll have to hit down on the dpad to make the mudokon take cover. Once you take care of these two, head towards the right and you’ll see another one across a gap with another Mudokon. After killing him, you can drop down and 3 more Sligs will appear. Line them up and take them down. Here’s a video (with me taking no care of the Mudokons
A Long, Hard Slog
Kill 30 Slogs in 30 seconds
This is also earned in Zulag 4 as well. When you enter the upper door entrance from the hub, you will see several slog kennels below you. Take possession of the slig down below and have him hit the first available lever. Once you do, slogs will be coming from the right. As soon as you’ve killed the last of them, run over to another lever to the left. Now you will have two kennels open up unleashing slogs on you. It’s probably not wise to remain between them so move to the right and kill the first slog coming from the right and then go about ten feet past the open kennel and turn around. Just simply shoot all Slogs coming at you and you’ll get the trophy. It’s pretty easy.
Rockin’ Mudokon
Kill a bat with a rock
The first chance you have to get this is in Stockyards. The first place you get rocks will also have bats flying above. Take the rocks and climb up the right side and aim with the right analog stick and hit R1 to throw. Kill one of the little bats with the rock to get the trophy. See Rockin’ Mudokon for a video
Escape Fartist
Escape from RuptureFarms without Abe being spotted by any Slig
You need to make it through all of chapter 1 without being spotted by a slig. You’ll want to do this through chapter select unless you don’t care about saving Mudokons because for this you want to avoid all secret areas. You can still possess sligs and use them to kill other sligs. Make sure you use sneak when approaching sleeping sligs. During the sniper section, use your chant to take control of the sniper in the background before heading out in the open. Here’s a video of the entire run.
Why Do Birds Suddenly Appear?

New ‘n’ Hasty
Rescue every Mudokon with an overall Best Time of 3:00:00 or less
Getting an overall best time of less than 3 hours isn’t as hard as it first appears, but you will need to have great knowledge of the levels, traps, puzzles, etc. Make great use of the quick save features…often. This way if you make a wrong move, you can reload the quick save and only lose a few seconds of time. If you respawn with an automatic checkpoint, you will be put further back and waste more time. Reloading a save doesn’t turn back the clock. The only way to stop the timer is to hit the pause button. Remember to tap the touchpad to create a quick save and then press and hold the touchpad to load the quicksave.
If you have a major time issue, you can hit start, select load and then restart chapter and that’ll reset the time. You will also have to save every mudokon in the game, all 299 of them. If you get to the final level and you don’t get the trophy, you can replay chapters and try to get a better time. If you do that and reduce your time to under 3 hours, you will need to replay the last chapter in it’s entirety.
To see what your total time is, you can exit all the way back out of the menu system and you will see your total time at the save select screen. I completed this in 2 hours and 44 minutes on Normal difficulty and 2 hours and 58 minutes on Hard. If you play this on easy, especially after completing the game on a harder difficulty, you should have no problems completing this.
Here is a walkthrough of the entire game with all Mudokons on Normal difficulty. If you need a little extra help, you can watch a part of the video and do it in your game and hit pause, and then watch another section.

Liberator of the Mudokon
Become a Mudokon saviour
This is awared if you beat the game and get the good ending. To get the good ending, all you will need to do is save 150 or more Mudokon. If you are following the guide and trying to save all of them, then you will also get this at the same time.
Mudokon Pop
Become a Mudokon salami
This requires you to get the bad ending. To get the bad ending you will need to save less than 150 Mudokon. You don’t need to replay the game to get this. If you completed the game and saved all Mudokon, then just go to chapter select and replay the game starting at Zulag 1. From there, just complete the game without saving over 150 Mudokon. To further save time, you can kill 99 of them and get the Act of Odd trophy
Coming Soon…
Find an advert for some New ‘n’ Tasty entertainment
These advertisements are on the progress boards you come across that show you how many employees are left, how many causalities and how many you have saved. There is some ads on the left side and you just need to be in the area when a specific one comes across. Really, you don’t need to worry about this trophy. I’m not even sure it’s possible to miss.
Mudokonga
Rescue 9 Mudokons at the same time
If you are aiming to save all 299 Mudokons, you will get this easily. You just need to send 9 of them through the bird escape portal at the same time. You can actually get this in the very first secret area of the game.
Valve Time
Turn off the gas with more than 30 seconds to spare
This is during the final chapter of the game, The Boardroom. You need to make it to the bottom and hit the lever with more than 30 seconds on the clock. This is really easy. You can make use of quick saves and loading and when you reload, the timer will be back up at the spot when you created it. If you would like to see what path I took and how I navigated through the puzzles, you can watch this part
Oops…
Fail to observe your surroundings
This will most certainly be one of your first trophies. All you need to do is accidentally send a mudokon to his death.
Very nice guide 😀 just wanted to say thanks for taking time out of your day to help losers like myself get trophies xD
ReplyGreat guide, I tried to do a Speedrun today but the PS3 version of this game is so glitched that it hampers your progress in getting the New N Hasty Trophy ( and its all I need to gain Platinum)-such a shame 🙁 When I get a PS4 I shall re buy the game and try to get the trophy as the PS3 version needs patching seriously.
ReplyWhy all the videos are in auto-play, it’s a nightmare for my browser to load (I have a old computer, but I guess I’m not the only one).
ReplyGreat guide, thanks you.
